Chelsea have run out of patience with £50million Fernando Torres and will move for Germany striker Mario Gomez.
According to talkSPORT, Stamford Bridge bosses are lining up a big-money offer for the out of favour Bayern Munich star to provide greater threat in the attacking department.
Torres has scored just 14 Premier League goals since his British transfer record switch from Liverpool and the report says Chelsea may finally be ready to add further competition for the centre-forward role.
It also claims Blues owner Roman Abramovich will sanction the move for Gomez, despite having just signed Demba Ba from Newcastle United in January.
Gomez scored 41 goals for Bayern last season playing in a similar role to the centre-forwards at Chelsea.
However, this impressive record couldn’t save him from the axe this season and he has played second fiddle to summer signing Mario Mandzukic.
The report says incoming boss Pep Guardiola is unlikely to see a future for the 27-year-old striker and he could be available in the summer.
Chelsea will have to be prepared to dig deep if they want to sign Gomez this summer, as he reportedly has a price tag in the region of £36million.
