Video: Referee attacked during league match in Lebanon

Published 22 Comments

A referee in Lebanon has become an internet hit for all the wrong reasons after becoming involved in altercations with players and fans.

The man in the middle is seen not giving a penalty, then brandishing a yellow card during the second division match between two unnamed teams.

However, his second decision appears to have gone down badly with one of the teams, and whilst he holds a red card in his hand, the referee is forced to fend off punches before turning to run away.

A fan then chases him down before falling flat on his face, with another two players then taking pot-shots at the fleeing official.

The ref then puts another fan down with a lovely sidestep, before slipping himself and getting jumped on by a fan. A soldier with a gun then watches him get back to his feet, but appears to be angry rather than willing to offer some help to the victim.

Watch the video at the top of the story, first seen on Dirty Tackle, and let us know what you think of the referee's fancy footwork…
