Dawson targets 'dream' England recall

Spurs defender Michael Dawson has said he hopes his performances in recent weeks are enough to earn him what he calls a 'dream' recall to the England set up.

The Spurs skipper has had his share of hardships at White Hart Lane and he was linked with moves away last summer and in the January window. But not one to give up, Dawson fought and battled to regain his starting place under new boss Andre Villas-Boas and his performances in recent weeks have now put him in the frame to earn himself an England recall.

The 29-year-old has not played for England for almost two years and said he would love to play for the Three Lions again.

"It would be a dream (to be recalled)," the centre-back told TalkSPORT.

"I got asked this question when I first got back in to the Spurs team. Then, I just had to concentrate on staying in the Tottenham team.

"Now I'm playing regularly for Tottenham...Fingers crossed. It would be nice to get that England call-up."

There are widespread reports in the papers this morning that Dawson will be included in the squad to face both San Marino and Montenegro.

Dawson has been a rock at the back for Spurs as they remain in the hunt for Champions League football next season, and if anyone deserves a place in Roy Hodgson's England squad it has to be Dawson.
