With Frank Lampard’s future at Chelsea is still unclear as he reaches the final few months of his contract.
Many Blues fans have been forced to consider that their beloved midfielder may leave this summer. As the days edge closer too Lampard’s last, this leaves many to wonder what the future holds, as Chelsea will need to quickly find a suitable replacement in the centre of midfield.
1 | Marouane Fellaini
The Belgium international has long been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and it is obvious to see why. With his towering height and imposing physical strength, Fellaini has proved that he can succeed at the highest level in England. A keen eye for goal also would be key, as Chelsea will surely look to recuperate the goals that Lampard offers.
2 |Bastian Scweinsteiger
The former winger now turned centre midfielder has proved unstoppable both for FC Bayern Munich and Germany in recent years. Considered the most natural successor to Lampard, Scweinsteiger’s superb vision and attacking prowess would be invaluable to Chelsea. Scweinsteiger, 28, has also contributed seven goals from 31 appearances from midfield and has helped thrust Bayern 17 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
3 | Kevin De Bruyne
Signed by Chelsea last season and immediately sent on successive loan spells, the Belgium midfielder has become a hot prospect in the Bundesliga. Preferring a more central role, opposed to struggling on the wings, De Bruyne has flourished and could prove a great in-house addition that Chelsea may consider.
4 | Sami Khedira
The Real Madrid star could be a great option should Jose Mourinho make a summer return to Chelsea. The German has fought and cemented a place with the Spanish giants, but with Madrid likely to make changes in the summer in an attempt to once again compete with FC Barcelona, Khedira could find himself a hot commodity Europes elite.
5 | Joao Moutinho
The Portuguese star appeared to be inching closer and closer to signing for Tottenham in the last transfer window, although if Chelsea were to show interest and spark a bidding war, the West London club would likely claim the midfielder.
