Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi says Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale are “the best” and would welcome the chance to play with them.

The Argentina international was speaking to a press conference to promote a new exhibition displaying some of the kit he wore for memorable moments in his career and individual awards.

Questions turned to talent in the Premier League and Messi admitted to admiring the Manchester United man, as well as his in-form counterpart at Spurs.

he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail“Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale are both great players, they are doing so well for their clubs,” .

Messi was wary over talking about the prospects of Bale and Rooney playing alongside him but admitted he was always keen to team up with the world’s top talents.

“I always want to play with the best players. But I have to be careful with what I say because I can’t see them leaving their teams soon,” added the 25-year-old.

“But of course I want to play with the best players.”

Messi has recently been accused of suffering from a dip in form that has coincided with damaging defeats to AC Milan in the Champions League and consecutive losses to Real Madrid.

However, Messi has scored in a record 16 consecutive La Liga matches and is still running away with Spain’s version of the Golden Boot.

The 2-0 defeat to Milan was a poor performance and Messi acknowledged as such before vowing to do all in his power to turn the tie around.

The return leg at Camp Nou takes place next week Tuesday, March 12 and Messi believes there is no reason why Barça cannot turn the deficit around.

“We’ve had some big defeats and we all have to do a bit more to change and improve the situation,” he added.

“We have a very important match next week and we have to focus on that. I hope we overturn the 2-0 loss.

“Why can’t we score three when they scored two in Italy? That’s what everyone expects from us and this is what we are going to try to do. Milan will be difficult but we can do it.”
