Inter Milan face Tottenham Hotspur this week in the Europa League and Gareth Bale will be in the forefront of their minds thanks to the last time they met.

The Welsh winger is in devastating form for Spurs at the moment and will be in the mood to tear the Serie A side to pieces once again.

The first was during the white Hart Lane club’s glorious defeat to at San Siro where Bale’s brilliant second half hat-trick almost sparked an incredible comeback from a 4-0 deficit at half time.

Bale orchestrated Inter’s demise in the corresponding fixture at White Hart Lane during Tottenham’s first ever Champions League outing in 2010-11.

Bale’s heroics got GiveMeFootball reminiscing about Premier League teams and their memorable moments in Europe, especially the numerous brilliant goals they have scored.

So, in true GMF style, we have compiled a top five of goals scored by Premier League stars in Europe.

Here they are:

Gareth Bale v Inter Milan

Tottenham are currently experiencing Bale’s best form since his demolition of Maicon and the first of his incredible hat-trick was the pick of these. Everything that is brilliant about the Wales in international was evident – power, pace and clinical finishing. Watch it above.

Cristiano Ronaldo v Porto

The year Manchester United got to their second successive final was billed as the meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. The Portuguese gave a little taste of what he could do in quarter-final against Porto. His 35-yard rocket was incredible and decided the tie. Watch it here.

Thierry Henry v Real Madrid

On their way to a final defeat at the hands of Barcelona, Arsenal faced a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu and left being the first English team to defeat the mighty Real Madrid in their own ground. It was thanks to this incredible solo effort from Gunners legend Henry.

Alex v Liverpool

Chelsea were in control after winning the first leg at Anfield 3-1 but goals from Fabio Aurelio and Xabi Alonso gave them a scare. It turned out ok in the end as a 4-4 draw saw the Blues book a semi-final against Barcelona. The highlight of the eight goals was a free-kick thunderbolt from Brazilian defender. Watch it here.

Freddie Ljungberg v Juventus

Arsenal could do with the combination of Dennis Bergkamp and Ljungberg right now; the pair shared a terrific understanding and were a constant goal threat to the Gunners opponents. Bergkamp’s skill and guile around the box was well-known and the 3-1 win over the Serie A giants saw one of his most sublime skills. The third goal to wrap up the result came from a sublime flick that bamboozled the Italians’ defence and allowed the Swede to dink over Buffon. Relive the moment of genius here..and here.
