Tottenham Hotspur are still hot on the trail of Sevilla striker and reported Manchester City target, Alvaro Negredo, according to the Daily Express.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with the Primera Division outfit ready to listen to offers for the Spain international.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is ready to make a bid for Negredo when the transfer window reopens this summer, but could face competition from Roberto Mancini for the player's signature.

With 13 goals in La Liga so far this season, reports in Spain suggest that Sevilla will hold out for around £15.5million before selling Negredo to the highest bidder.

His inflated valuation will encourage big-spenders Manchester City, who are more likely to pay the hefty price to bring him to the Etihad Stadium, ahead of Tottenham, who are traditionally much more frugal in the transfer market.

The north Londoners are still assessing their attacking options, as they consider selling Emmanuel Adebayor at the end of the current campaign.

Jermain Defoe has only recently returned from injury, though, and with Villas-Boas's forward options already limited, he might refrain from getting rid of the Togolese star until a replacement has been recruited.
