Real Madrid to pip Manchester City to Uruguayan striker's signature

Manchester City will allegedly miss out on Napoli ace Edinson Cavani, as reports from Spain emerge that the Uruguayan is more likely to sign for Real Madrid in the summer.

The Daily Express has revealed that Real Madrid's charm offensive has made Jose Mourinho's side the favourites to secure Cavani's services, as their tactics have helped to develop a good working relationship with the Serie 'A' title contenders.

It was believed that Manchester City were leading the chase for the 26-year-old, but they are now second in line for the striker, supposedly worth £54million.

The Daily Express also reports that Napoli are considering bids for Gonzalo Higuain and Fabio Coentrao in return.

Cavani's goalscoring exploits at Napoli have made him one of the world's most sought after players. He has netted 27 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this season, having scored 33 goals in both of the previous two campaigns.

Cavani regularly links up with fellow goalscoring sensation Luis Suarez at international level, having made 46 caps for Uruguay.
