Liverpool interest confirmed in Peruvian defender
Liverpool transfer news: Carlos Zambrano linked with move from Eintracht Frankfurt
Liverpool have made an enquiry over Peruvian defender Carlos Zambrano, according to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 23-year-old centre back, who can also play in holding midfield, was a graduate of the Schalke youth system and made his senior debut for the club in 2008.
But, after two seasons with the Bundesliga side, he joined St Pauli – initially on loan – in an effort to secure first team football.
He made another switch across Germany two years later, and has been in fine form this season as Frankfurt challenge for an unlikely Champions League qualifying spot.
And, his form has not gone unnoticed, with director Bruno Hubner confirming Liverpool have made an approach over the player’s availability.
"There's interest from Liverpool in Carlos Zambrano. They have asked about him, but there has not been an offer yet," revealed Hubner, according to Sky Sports.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is tipped to revamp his defence in the summer, with veteran Jamie Carragher retiring and Martin Skrtel linked with a move away from Anfield.
Ashley Williams has been linked with a move to Anfield, according to the report, and Zambrano now also appears to be on the radar at Liverpool.
