Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is on the list of candidates to replace Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager and Spurs may be powerless to stop him from leaving.
According to Radio Cadena Cope, the Spurs tactician has been impressing officials at Santiago Bernabeu with his side’s surge to third in the Premier League this season.
Villas-Boas’ stock has risen to new heights in England after his disastrous tenure with Chelsea and it looks as though he will take the White Hart Lane club back into the Champions League next season.
The report claims Mourinho’s former assistant is one of three candidates being eyed by los Blancos – the other two are Jurgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund and Carlo Ancelotti of PSG.
Another report from Cope claims Villas-Boas has a release clause in his contract with the north London club that allows him to walk away if Real Madrid come calling.
This means Spurs would be powerless to stop him should the Spanish champions choose to make an approach for him.
It is unwelcome news at the end of a positive week for Tottenham where they defeated local rivals Arsenal to strengthen their position in the top four.
They also dismantled Serie A side Inter Milan in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie, running out 3-0 winners on Thursday night at White Hart Lane.
