Video: Didier Drogba blames pitch for shocking penalty miss

Published 37 Comments

Didier Drogba’s last kick for Chelsea was a penalty that won the Champions League – but he couldn’t repeat the trick for Galatasaray last night.

Indeed, the Ivorian international made a complete hash of his effort from 12-yards after coming off the bench on 65 minutes against Genclerbirligi.

Gala were 1-0 down at the time, and Drogba went down softly in the area to win the spot-kick in the closing stages.

But, the 34-year-old was unable to convert his golden chance, firing high and wide with a quite awful effort that would cost his side a point, with the score staying the same until full-time.

And, rather than shouldering the blame, the powerful forward quickly turned back to look at the pitch, and even gave it a little kick to amplify the point that it had hindered his effort.

Watch the effort at the top of this story, and have your say on if it was a dive in the box…
