Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of their Champions League last 16 second leg as Bayern Munich star man Franck Ribery has been ruled out with injury.

The Gunners go to the Allianz Arena facing a huge task to qualify for the quarter-finals ahead of the in-form German side.

Bayern were hugely impressive in the first leg at Emirates Stadium and came away having given Arsene Wenger’s side a lesson during the 3-1 win.

The Arsenal boss will be hoping his side can pull off one of the great European performances to progress in the competition and they will be helped by the Bavarians’ latest injury worries.

Ribery damaged his ankle ligaments during the 3-2 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayern will also be without the suspended Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jerome Boateng for the clash on Wednesday evening.

Added to this, Arsenal may be spared lining up against winger Arjen Robben after he missed the last-minute victory at the weekend with a calf strain.

Meanwhile, the Gunners’ former Bayern striker, Lukas Podolski, revealed he was carrying a minor injury but thinks he will be ready for the trip.
