Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has insisted he is happy on loan at Atletico Madrid and would like to stay if he can.

The Belgium international has been on loan at the Vicente Calderon since he signed for the Stamford Bridge club in 2011.

Petr Cech is currently undisputed Blues number one and Courtois would likely have to play second fiddle if he were to return to his parent club.

The 20-year-old has also established himself as Atletico manager Diego Simeone’s first choice ‘keeper and, with the 2014 World Cup approaching, is unlikely to be happy siting on the bench in the season leading up to it.

Chelsea will be impressed with the job he is doing in La Liga as the comments came after he broke a club record before making the comments.

"I'm happy but disappointed by the defeat. A record is for the whole team,” he said after going 820 minutes without conceding a goal at home in the league.

The previous record was 800 minutes and had stood for 12 years but Courtois could not stop his side falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Sciedad.

It was when commenting about the record that he revealed his desire to stay in Madrid and not join up with Chelsea.

"Everyone knows that I'm very comfortable here. It gives me great joy that the fans give me love and I have it for them too,” he added.

“I love the life, people, colleagues I have here. The decision is not only mine but also Chelsea and Atletico. If I can, I want to stay here.”
