Wayne Rooney hails Manchester United keeper after Chelsea draw
Wayne Rooney pays tribute to David De Gea after 2-2 draw against Chelsea in FA Cup
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hailed the performance of goalkeeper David De Gea following the 2-2 draw against Chelsea in the FA Cup sixth round.
The Red Devils appeared to be cruising to the last four after goals from Javier Hernandez and Rooney put the hosts firmly in control after 45 minutes at Old Trafford.
However, the introduction of Eden Hazard made the difference for Rafa Benitez’s side, and goals from the Belgian and Ramires earned a replay for the Blues.
It could have been even better for the Stamford Bridge outfit had De Gea not produced some stunning second-half saves, and Rooney recognised the contribution of his Spanish stopper post-match.
“We started well in the first half yesterday but Chelsea made it really difficult for us in the second. David De Gea made some top saves,” he wrote on his official Facebook page today (Monday).
Rooney was back in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side after missing out against Real Madrid last week, and made an instant impact on 11 minutes when his curling free-kick found the far post.
And, the England striker will again hope to be involved at the weekend, when Manchester United host Reading in the Premier League.
