Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris insists the players must keep their confidence following defeat to Liverpool.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side threw away a 2-1 lead at Anfield following Jan Vertonghen’s brace, with Stewart Downing and Steven Gerrard capitalising on errors from the north London club.

Victory would have moved Spurs ten-points clear of rivals Arsenal in the race for a top four finish, but instead the gap remains at seven with the Gunners having a game in hand.

Despite the loss, Lloris insists Tottenham remain in pole position to land Champions League football next season, and must keep the faith as the Premier League run-in continues.

“This game must not break our confidence. We did great things before this game and mistakes can always happen during the season,” said Lloris post-match, according to The Evening Standard.

“The important thing is to win all our games at home and to add good results away. We are disappointed but we can think a lot of positive things after this game.”

Next up for Spurs is the trip to Inter Milan in the Europa League, with the English side taking a 3-0 lead to Italy following an impressive win at White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale won’t make the trip to the San Siro, scene of his scintillating hat-trick two-years ago, after picking up a booking for diving in the first leg. It was his second in the competition.
