Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is a transfer alternative for Arsenal – if they fail in their pursuit of Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes.
The Daily Mail claims Arsene Wenger is expected to launch a bid for the 31-year-old Blaugrana star, who is available for as little as £8.5million with just a year left on his contract at the Nou Camp.
However, should the Gunners fail in their pursuit of the Spaniard, the paper claims that his compatriot Reina is one of the transfer alternatives.
Reina moved to the Premier League in 2005, joining Liverpool from Villarreal during the Rafael Benitez era at Anfield.
The 30-year-old has been a mainstay for the Merseyside giants ever-since, replacing Jerzy Dudek between the sticks and providing the Reds with some stability at the back.
However, the Liverpool star was linked with a move away from the club in January, and Arsenal are now reported to be on the player’s trail.
Wojciech Szczesny is the current No.1 at the Emirates Stadium, but has been far from convincing for the Gunners this season with a number of high-profile errors.
And, should Wenger look to replace the Pole at the end of the season, Reina now appears to be an option for Arsenal.
