Chelsea have seemingly been handed a boost in their apparent pursuit of former manager Jose Mourinho, with reports claiming the Portuguese has already agreed with Real Madrid that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Mourinho is odds on favourite with the bookmakers to return to Chelsea in the summer after Rafael Benitez's interim tenure at Stamford Bridge comes to an end and, according to Metro, the Real Madrid boss is a step closer to a return to the Premier League.

The 50-year-old reportedly signed official documentation in December to confirm he will part ways with Real Madrid when the season finishes, with dressing room unrest and a poor season domestically contributing to his departure.

Chelsea would appear the most likely English suitors for Mourinho, although the ex-Inter manager has also been linked with a switch to Manchester United as a successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Ferguson, however, has yet to provide a clear indication as to when he will lower the curtain on his illustrious career with Manchester United, and Mourinho's availability may come too soon for the Red Devils.

Paris Saint-Germain, currently managed by former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelottli, have also been credited with interest in Mourinho, although the French giants have indicated they intend to stick with the Italian next season.
