Having won manager of the month in January following a good start to the new year, it took just 33 days for Brian McDermott to go under the axe at Reading.
Reports now suggest that former Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio is the favourite to take over at the Berkshire club.
Having been spotted in the stands for the Royals home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, the former Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham man is keen on a job in the Premier League, in which he is well remembered from his playing days.
Di Canio left the League One side in February following what he called: "a number of broken promises by the club".
He was a success during his 21-month spell as manager, however the row regarding the future of the club resulted in Di Canio leaving the County Ground.
With the thought of relegation and the huge impact it causes financially, Reading need to be sure the man they choose can save them from the drop. There is no doubt that Di Canio has the fire nd passion that could re-ignite the Royal's, but his managerial experience at the top level is non-existent, and would be a huge gamble.
But having worked wonders at Swindon in his previous employment, could he be just the man to save Reading's diminishing season?
Reading travel to league leaders Manchester United this weekend, so will be hopeful of securing a manger in the coming days.
