United goal-scoring legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that the timeless Ryan Giggs has what it takes to succeed Ferguson as manager when his playing career comes to an inevitable end.
Speaking at an event to launch Norway's Tippeliagen, Solskjaer said: "Giggsy is going to play another year (but) I'd say he's got his eyes and ears open more to what the manager is doing.
"He's looking at that (United) job for himself, Giggsy. He's got top potential."
As a former employee and advocate of Ferguson and his United side, initially as a first team player who subsequently then went on to manage at youth level at the Manchester Club, Solksjaer undoubtedly understands the criteria the next United manager would have to meet.
Solskjaer, now manager of the Norwegian side Molde is looking to win his third Tippeliagen title in as many seasons in charge has accredited the winning mentality learned under Sir Alex Ferguson as the reason behind his early success.
He said: "The mentality has changed. I brought coaches from Man United over with me and we coach them in the same philosophy as I was coached when I played there."
In addition, the Norwegian legend has made it no secret that he has eyes on the United hot seat for himself when the position eventually arises.
Solskjaer finished by saying: "I've said it before that my dream is to manage Man United - that's tongue in cheek really, because it's a massive job, it's the biggest job in the world.
"But you have to dream big - if you don't dream big you won't make it, so let's just wait and see what happens."
