Santos offer Neymar lucrative new contract
Neymar is wanted by Europe's biggest clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City
The 21-year-old forward is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football, with constant speculation linking the South American with a move away from Brazil.
Premier League and La Liga giants are all monitoring Neymar's situation, with a view to potential bids for his services when the transfer window reopens this summer.
However, their respective hopes of winning the transfer battle that is likely to ensue have now been dealt a significant blow, in light of the latest Santos offer.
"Santos have now offered us a deal for him to renew his contract," confirmed Neymar's father and agent, at the recent Laureus World Sports Awards in Brazil. "But we will have to wait and talk to them.
"It is very difficult to see him leaving before 2013 although we will have to think about what is best for him."
Neymar has frequently spoken of his desire to remain in his homeland until after the 2014 World Cup, but that has done little to quash the regular rumours and transfer talk.
Manchester City officials reportedly met with Neymar's representatives at the recent international friendly between England and Brazil at Wembley which celebrated the Football Association's 150th anniversary, while Chelsea have held a long-term interest in bringing the star to Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona are regularly talked about as favourites to secure Neymar's services when he finally leaves Santos, and Real Madrid's name has been thrown into the hat, just like it is with most of football's other world-leading stars.
