West Brom scout another Chelsea loanee ahead of proposed summer move

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has travelled to Holland to run the rule over Chelsea loanee Tomas Kalas ahead of a proposed summer move, reports the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old defender is currently enjoying his second season-long loan spell with Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem, and has been earning rave reviews after a series of impressive performances this term.

Kalas's fine form has earned him a call-up to the Czech Republic national team, as he continues to develop his game on the right side of defence.

Chelsea have high hopes for the full-back, but are likely to send him out of Stamford Bridge on loan again next season as they are unable to offer him regular first-team football with Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic the preferred choices for the Blues at right-back at the moment.

That's where the Baggies come in, as they look to capitalise on the successful relationship built with Chelsea that brought Romelu Lukaku to The Hawthorns this campaign.

The Belgian striker has been a revelation for Clarke's side, and has already scored 13 Premier League goals for West Brom in 2012/13 - the best return of any teenager in the Premier League since Michael Owen's early days at Liverpool in 1998/99.

Like Lukaku, Chelsea's preference would be to give Kalas some experience of Premier League football next year, and will likely look favourably upon a temporary switch to the Midlands.

West Brom have been in the market for a right-back for some time, but decided against recruiting one in January, as they eye a summer deal for the Chelsea youngster.

Kalas penned a new contract with the Blues last year, that will keep him in west London until 2017, by which point he will hope to be a Chelsea regular.
