Manchester United winger Nani is keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford and is hopeful of securing a new long-term United contract, according to talkSPORT.

The Portuguese winger has been linked with a move away from Manchester United after contract talks reportedly stalled.

Nani's current deal runs out at the end of next season, and negotiations regarding an extension reached a stalemate earlier this term.

But the 26-year-old is hoping to demonstrate his worth to Sir Alex Ferguson. He has two and a half months to earn a new deal, as United look to challenge for a famous Premier League and FA Cup double.

Speaking to several national papers and quoted on talkSPORT, Nani said: "I want to show the manager that he can trust me and he can believe in me every match.

"I want to show him my contribution can help win games. So I'll keep working hard to make sure I'm ready to respond every time I get a chance."

Nani has enjoyed a recent run in the first-team, starting three of United's last four fixtures. He's struggled to nail down a place this term, and the former-United player of the season hopes his red card against Real Madrid won't derail his first-team chances.

"Now my confidence is high and I think the best is still to come," said Nani. "This is my time and I think I can be important for the team in these big games.

"Because I was injured for two months, I'm fresh now when some other players are starting to get tired.

"I feel I'm in good form and I've nearly arrived at my peak. I think over the next few games I can surprise a few people."

The Portugal international suffered a hamstring injury earlier this campaign, and at one stage it looked like he was set to leave the club this summer after failing to crack the starting XI.
