Lewis Hotby says Tottenham's long-term target is to become the best team in London.

Spurs are currently the highest-placed London team in the Premier League in 3rd place, although rivals Chelsea could leapfrog them and Arsenal could narrow the gap to four points if both teams win their game in hand on Andre Villas-Boas' side.

The race for Champions League qualification looks set to go down to the wire with all three London teams vying for supremacy, and Holtby, a January arrival from Schalke, says his long-term goal is to help Tottenham establish themselves as the best team in the capital.

"Tottenham are a massive club. In Germany, they're not seen as such perhaps, but people must come here and see what a club they are," he told Goal.com.

"We have a good team and a good team spirit. We are all very professional over here.

"We should not be underestimated given the quality we have in the squad. I have a feeling we could win [the Europa League] but that will be tough. There is still a long way to go. We still have to play the second leg against Inter.

"We want to play in the Champions League and to be the best team in London."

Spurs recent 12 game unbeaten streak propelled them above their rivals for a top four spot and on the road to Europa League glory, with Gareth Bale's sensational form the driving force behind that run.

The Welshman will miss tonight's Europa League last-16 2nd leg encounter against Inter Milan, but the north London club remain confident of securing a quarter-final spot having claimed a 3-0 win in the 1st leg last week.

"He's a quiet but very professional guy," Holtby said of the talismanic Bale. "On the other hand, he also likes joking around a bit but he's just a really good guy. Despite all the hype around him, he's got on his feet on the ground.

"He works very hard. Gareth is just a sporting animal who has no fat on him and is very big. He also has a shot like a horse!

"The season is not over yet and Gareth is determined to score a few more goals."

Hotlby is yet to nail down a regular first-team spot since arriving at Tottenham in January from Schalke, but had nothing but kind words to  say when asked about Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

"He impressed me from the very first conversation," the midfielder enthused. "He wanted to have me. The talks were great, he is an experienced coach despite his young age.

"The talks with him were a huge incentive for me. The whole package - coach and club - fit perfectly with me.

"He is very close to the team; sometimes he's one of the guys but he can also be harsher. He exudes authority."
