Andre Villas-Boas has turned Tottenham Hotspur into a formidable force in England and Europe.
However, they’ll need a world-class striker if they’re to stand any chance of getting to the next level and rival Manchester City and Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
Unfortunately, Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor are not Tottenham’s answer. Defoe’s start to the season was exceptional with a goal on the opening day, but goals have been hard to come by lately, albeit due to a month out injured.
The English player is somewhere behind Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez in terms of goals and his overall play. Although, seen as a legend in Tottenham the pint-sized striker does not have the prowess to take the Champions League by surprise if Tottenham were to qualify for the elite competition.
Adebayor's season has been mediocre so far. The Togolese international has notched up just three goals all season. The ex City player has found it extremely difficult to hit the back of the net this season. The question is: where can Tottenham go with a world-class striker?
Gareth Bale has been converted for a left-winger to a more central role behind the striker that has yielded goals for the Welsh man with an impressive 21 goals in just 35 games this season. His performances this season has led to people calling Tottenham a ‘one man team’.
If Tottenham manage to hang onto their prized possession then surely he will benefit from playing alongside players like Gonzalo Higuain?
Yes. In recent weeks, Tottenham have been linked to Gonzalo Higuain and they must snap him up as soon as possible.
Higuain would be an ideal signing for the Spurs because he is a proven goal scorer with 113 goals in just 249 games for Madrid. Last season, he notched up 26 goals in 54 games. Not bad for a player who was not considered as first choice. His build up play and sharp eyes for goals will increase Tottenham chances of rivalling the Manchester clubs.
Tottenham will do well to sign Higuain in the summer and keep Bale at the same time. However, they will need to concentrate on securing Champions league football first before looking to add such a world-class striker to their squad.
