Andre Villas-Boas: Tottenham's shocking display at Inter Milan was a one-off
Tottenham news: Andre Villas-Boas does not expect repeat performance of Inter Milan loss
Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham's poor performance against Inter Milan in their 4-1 defeat at San Siro last night was a one-off.
Emmanuel Adebayor's extra time tap in was only just enough to save Tottenham an embarrassing departure from the tournament in their last-16 tie with Inter.
Portuguese manager Villas-Boas was quick to highlight that the unique situation, along with Inter's excellent exploitation of Spurs' high defensive line, caused his side to capitulate the way they did.
He feels the classy Italians made Spurs look a lesser outfit than they actually are.
The 35-year-old said after the match: "They are not as bad as their performance in London and we're not as bad as the performance we showed today.
"There are still lots of positives in an evening like this because the desire to reach the last eight of the competition was always there from the players, even in extra-time, which is an excellent time for us."
Villas-Boas admits his side were unorganised and lacking in all areas of the pitch.
He added: "I think the organisation wasn't there because their mind wasn't there. Every goal for Inter Milan was a boost of motivation for them and a knife in the back for us."
Spurs are one of three English clubs remaining in the last eight of the competition, the other two being Newcastle United and Chelsea.
They go into the hat with FC Basel, Rubin Kazan, Fenerbahce, Benfica and Lazio for the quarter-final stage of the competition.
