Chelsea midfielder emerges as target for London rivals

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce says Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun is 'likely' to be on his list of transfer targets this summer, after the Israeli spent a loan spell at the Boleyn Ground earlier this season.

Benayoun signed for the Hammers on a six month loan deal in the summer transfer window of last year, having previously spent two successful seasons in east London prior to a switch to Liverpool.

The 32-year-old's second stint with West Ham was blighted by injury, and he was restricted to only six appearances before the terms of his agreement required Benayoun to return to Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the season.

Benayoun has, however, been required just twice in the Premier League by Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez and, it would appear, the Israel international could end a three-year association with the Blues at the end of the campaign.

A transfer to Russia has been mooted for Benayoun, but he may be offered the opportunity to stay in London, after Allardyce suggested he may look to bring the player back to West Ham - provided he is still in the job come the transfer window.

"I've not thought about that yet. It's about being safe then securing my position and seeing where we go," Allardyce said, as reported by talkSPORT.

"There will be lots of clubs chasing players who won't cost anything in terms of a transfer fee. He will be on our list probably but we will wait and see when the time comes around."
