Here we take a look at five players Arsene Wenger should consider signing to end Arsenal's eight year trophy wait.

Here are the top five players Arsenal should sign this summer:

1. Ashley Williams

Arsenal's defence is in desperate need of a solid, consistent, and aggressive defender. Williams ticks all the boxes and definitely fits the bill as someone who is not just one of the leading lights in Michael Laudrup's team but also a strong figure in the dressing room who will lead by example  He could be available for as little as 8m pounds.

2.Edinson Cavani

Although Cavani may seem like a unrealistic signing for the Gunners, but with the striker being reportedly ready to leave Naples and with Arsenal having a large transfer kitty this summer and being in need for a top draw striker, Cavani would be the ideal signing. The striker has scored 18 league goals in 23 games this season and would add the killer edge to Arsenal's attack.

3.Mario Gotze

It is no secret that Arsene Wenger is a huge fan of Gotze, reportedly having been linked with a £25 million move for the German international in 2011. Wenger may be ready to come back with another bid this summer, and Gotze could become the creative player that Arsenal have been lacking since the departure of former captain Cesc Fabregas. The prospect of a midfield containing Wilshere, Cazorla and Gotze is mouth watering.

4. Victor Wanyama

Arsenal have been lacking a defensive midfielder enforcer ever since Patrick Vieira left the club in 2005, and especially since the loss of Alex Song last summer, Arsenal have been forced to use Mikel Arteta in the holding role in midfield. 21-year-old, Wanyama has impressed in the heart of Celtic's midfield this season, with stunning performances against Barcelona in the Champions League. The Kenyan star has rejected a contract from Celtic and could be available for 10m.

5. Asmir Begovic

With Arsenal's current goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny enduring a terrible season, question marks have been raised over his character and ability to sustain the number one position. Begovic who has kept nine clean sheets so far this season and has produced a number of outstanding performances could be the answer to Arsenal's long term goalkeeping problems. With the arrival of Jack Butland to Stoke next summer, Begovic could well be available in the summer.
