Last year's Champions League winners Chelsea face a two-legged tie against Russian outfit Rubin Kazan while Spurs will do battle against Swiss side FC Basel. Meanwhile, Newcastle have been handed the toughest test of the English clubs as they face high-flying Portuguese side Benfica.
Seeing as the Blues have won all four previous European games against Russian sides, their progression to the semi-finals should be fairly straightforward despite facing a long trip to Russia in the second leg.
Fellow London club Spurs have also been handed a favourable tie against Swiss champions FC Basel although they will have to be wary not to be too complacent after their exploits in Thursday’s second-leg against Inter Milan in the previous round, having to rely on Emmanuel Adebayor’s away goal to send them through despite leading 3-0 from the first-leg.
Alan Pardew’s Newcastle were drawn last out of the hat as they face a very difficult quarter-final against Benfica. The Portuguese side, who were narrowly knocked out of the Champions League group stages with Celtic just advancing at their expense, are currently top of their domestic league and have not lost a league fixture all season.
Elsewhere, the other quarter-final tie sees Turkish side Fenerbahce face Italian outfit Lazio.
Europa League quarter-final draw in full:
Chelsea v Rubin Kazan
Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel
Fenerbahce v Lazio
Benfica v Newcastle
First legs to be played on April 4 and second legs to be played on April 11.
