Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has refuted suggestions that the mega-rich French club have a made an approach for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, with a view to a summer transfer.

Rooney has been linked with a transfer away from Manchester United ever since his omission against Real Madrid last week, although Sir Alex Ferguson maintains that the England striker will remain at the club.

PSG are reported to harbour an interest in Rooney, who will be offered the chance to extend his stay at OId Trafford, with claims the Ligue 1 leaders are preparing a summer transfer window bid for the Manchester United star.

Although he categorically denies such supposition, Leonardo realises links to Europe's prominent players, Rooney included, will continue with PSG's vast riches making them the continent's newest superpower.

But the Brazilian has assured Manchester United that there is no genuine interest in Rooney and, should PSG eventually decide to move for the 27-year-old, Sir Alex Ferguson and the club will be the first to know their intentions.

"I think, a little bit, that PSG became a team that [people think] can buy all the players," he told Sky Sports News

"I think that now we are in the opposite sense of other clubs in terms of economic problems, that's why. It's nice to see that some big players - not only Rooney - want to come, it's something we are happy about. But Rooney is one of the best players in the world.

"We never approach anyone, never talked with anyone, and if one day we do, the first one who will know will be Manchester United. That is not the case now, there is nothing, nothing, nothing."
