Stephan El Shaarawy: Forget Barcelona defeat
AC Milan news: Stephan El Shaarawy tells AC Milan teammates to forget Barcelona defeat
Stephan El Shaawary has urged his AC Milan teammates to focus on Serie A again after their Champions League campaign ended at the hands of Barcelona earlier this week.
Milan took a 2-0 advantage to Camp Nou before they were outclassed by Barcelona, losing 4-0 to the Spanish giants.
The Italians would need to finish in the top two of Serie A for automatic qualification into next season's Champions League and would need to go through preliminary rounds if they finished third.
Milan currently sit third in the league standings, behind second-placed Napoli by only two points and El Shaawary has not given up hopes of automatic Champions League qualification just yet.
"We have to put Barcelona behind us and focus on second place in Serie A. We have 10 games left to make sure we play in next season's Champions League," El Shaarawy told Milan Channel (Goal.com).
"What we're doing at the moment seemed unthinkable at the start of the season. Our come-back has been strong and these last 10 matches will have to be like 10 cup finals."
El Shaarawy said the Milan team is free from injury and are more than capable of automatic Champions League qualification.
"There are no big injuries ahead of Sunday except for (Giampaolo) Pazzini and we hope to win against Palermo."
Milan host the Sicilians at San Siro on Sunday where they will look to bounce back from their Champions League disappointment.
