Gareth Bale’s recent performances have made his teammates pale in comparison and some argue that the Welshman is too good for his current club and have outgrown them.

Although Tottenham have quality players in their squad, the fact that north London outfit received a thrashing at the San Siro last night and only squeezed into the quarter-finals with an away goal in the 4-1 defeat, doesn’t aid the case of those that have been so offended by Tottenham being hailed a one-man-squad.

Bale’s presence was clearly missed as Spurs stumbled through the match. An unlikely goal from Adebayor in extra time did enough to let the north Londoners progress but the result begs the question as to where Tottenham will be without their Walsh wizard.

If Tottenham fails to place in the top four of the Premier League and misses out on Champions League qualification, they can kiss Bale goodbye. Too many top clubs are hankering after the winger’s signature and he will surely opt to play in Europe’s elite competition rather than spend another season at White Hart Lane.

Even if Tottenham manage to qualify, Bale’s stay is no surety. AVB should start looking for alternatives to Bale in the summer, for as it stands Spurs’ hopes of becoming a regular in the top four and the top club in London will be crushed once Bale leaves.

After being labeled a one-man-team Tottenham stopper Brad Friedel said: "That's ridiculous - that's a poor comment. Gareth is an exceptional player and we have a lot of exceptional players.

"Every good team has their star players. Gareth is playing well for us. We are a better team for it, but we have some exceptional players that can step in and do the job."

The embarrassing defeat against Inter contradicts Friedel’s statement and rather verifies the ‘poor comment’ that Tottenham indeed over-relies on Bale.

Arsenal can thank Robin van Persie for their finishing in third last season. The Dutchman left for log leaders Manchester United this season and the Gunners have certainly missed the striker in their ranks and their current position reflects that.

Should Bale leave White Hart Lane, Tottenham fans can expect a very similar result.
