Sir Alex Ferguson denies Rafael Benitez hand shake snub
Manchester United news: Sir Alex Ferguson denies snubbing Rafael Benitez
Sir Alex Ferguson has denied rumours that he refused to shake Rafael Benitez' s hand before Manchester United's FA Cup quarter-final with Chelsea.
The Manchester United boss has described the claims saying he snubbed Chelsea interim manager Benitez as "absolute nonsense," after the accusation from the Spaniard.
Benitez claimed Ferguson ignored him before kick-off in their 2-2 FA Cup draw at Old Trafford last Sunday.
Ferguson said, as reported by The Mirror: "That's absolute nonsense. Why wouldn't I shake hands? Think about it. Have you ever seen me not shake hands with anyone?
The United boss insists that it had nothing to do with mind games, instead was a pre-match ritual of the Scotsman's.
He added: "I never saw him (Benitez). I was signing autographs at the front. There's that Indian lad who always wants to shake my hand before the game and says it brings me luck."
Ferguson made the point clear that he didn't see Benitez before the game and that he is unsure why Benitez has made the accusations.
"Why he would say that i've no idea. If he wanted to shake my hand he could have walked straight in front of me," Ferguson continued.
"I don't know why he's said that, i've no idea."
The FA Cup quarter-final replay date between the two clubs has been arranged for April 1.
