John Terry predicts Fernando Torres streak

Published 7 Comments

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will come good and rediscover his most devastating form very soon, according to John Terry.

The Spain striker scored only his second goal since Christmas when he bagged the winning goal in the Blues Europa League tie with Steaua Bucharest at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

However, he did miss a penalty later on in the game but Chelsea captain Terry believes Torres is on the verge of a goalscoring run and feels he could go on a streak between now and the end of the season.

"It only takes that one goal or something to happen for him to really kick on, but he's putting in a shift for the team as well," he said.

"Sometimes that doesn't get picked up as much as it should do. You know what it's like for strikers. Mentally he has had to be very strong - and he is. He has got the full support of the fans and the players. It will always remain that way.

"We are eager for him to score goals. He will certainly get the support and the assists from the quality that we have in the side."

Chelsea have had striker troubles all season with Torres’ form being an issue for interim boss Rafael Benitez.

It was hoped by many that the former Liverpool boss could get the best out of Torres due to their success at Anfield together but this hasn’t happened.

Torres has scored only seven Premier League goals this season and has again looked short of confidence.

Chelsea signed Newcastle United striker Demba Ba to provide the Spain international with some competition in the central striker role and someone to help with the goalscoring burden.

However, Ba has failed to shine since he made the switch to Stamford Bridge and has only managed four goals since he made the move in January.
