Manchester United get serious with Gareth Bale enquiry

.

Manchester United made a top-level enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale as they look to get serious with their interest in him.

According to the Daily Star, Sir Alex Ferguson instructed Old Trafford officials to make an approach to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over the Welsh winger.

Bale has been in devastating form this year so Manchester United’s interest is understandable but they may have been shocked by the £70million asking price they were quoted by the White Hart Lane club.

Manchester United are not the only club to be tracking Bale, as La liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been credited with an interest in him.

However, Tottenham are desperate to keep hold of the 23-year-old as they look likely to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The report claims they will try and do this by offering to boost Bale’s wages from £90,000-a-week to £150,000-a-week.

It also claims Manchester United’s interest in Bale is sparked by the realisation that they are unlikely to land former star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The report claims Ferguson wanted to explore the possibilities of bringing back the Real Madrid man to Old Trafford but accepted the financials involved were too great.

Bale has scored in nine of Tottenham’s last ten games and has become critical to their success this season.

The brush with Europa League elimination at Inter Milan, where Bale was suspended, illustrated his importance.
