After four consecutive wins in the Premier League, it seemed as though Tottenham Hotspur would surely secure another top-four finish.
However after losing two games in a row, they face stiff competition from arch-rivals Arsenal. The Gunners were slowly falling behind the top four, and after losing in the North London derby their chances of qualifying for Europe's elite competition were looking pretty slim.
But the shock result at White Hart Lane puts them within touching distance of a Champions League spot. Arsenal are currently in fifth place, four points behind the Spurs with a game in hand. In a not so interesting ordeal, Tottenham passed up the chance of restoring a seven-point cushion after the Gunners beat Swansea on Saturday .
To add insult to injury, the man hurting their chances of a more comfortable run-in is no other than former favourite Dimitar Berbatov.
The Lilywhite's struggled to respond after going down, and even when they managed to get a shot on target, it wasn't enough to beat Schwarzer, who pulled of a fantastic save near the end of the match, denying Defoe from close-range.
Who knows what will happen. Both Arsenal and Tottenham still have some difficult games to play before the season's over.
But one thing is for certain, they will do everything they can to ensure a top-four finish, effectively keeping their biggest rivals out of the Champions League.
It will be a double win for the team from north London who can keep most constancy from now till the end of the season.
