As fans of the sport we tend to look at players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and the highlights they provide us week in and week out.
However there are players that do so much but don't show up on stat sheets. We can take a player like Michael Carrick who provided a great ball to Javier Hernandez against Chelsea in their FA Cup game.
He isn't a player to score many goals or to amaze you with his footwork but he plays his position well and seems to always play the right ball.
Another player that fits this category is Moussa Dembele who time and time again took responsibility in Tottenham’s game against Inter Milan.
Tottenham are never the same when they lack the services of Gareth Bale but Dembele attacked and created for his teammates with every touch. The space that he can create with his dribbling and the stress that he can put on the opposing side causes confusion, which creates openings for his teammates.
When people talk about Pablo Zabaleta they see a utility player in a team full of stars. However, when Manchester City started their rebuilding process, Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta were the only two that survived the extensive makeover.
The Argentina international has improved to become one of the best defenders in the league. His relentless running up the line provides an option for the midfield and forwards.
Zabaleta is not a very offensive minded player although he is often attacking the opposition and creating havoc around the box with crosses and constant pressure.
If you look at Manchester City and their defenders he has been their most consistent defender with captain Vincent Kompany out with injury. Although these players are not headline makers, losing them to injury could disrupt the balance of their respected teams.
