After another disappointing season, Arsenal will be looking to strengthen in this summer’s transfer market. Arsene Wenger should look no further than Barecelona’s surplus players to plug the gaps.
It does sound really surprising to suggest that Arsenal should sign four players from the Catalan club. It is usually FC Barcelona who snatches the players from Arsenal one by one. Not only that but also many Arsenal fans won’t believe Arsene Wenger is finally in the market for top talent after years of stinginess.
Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez was touted to be one of the greatest players on the planet when he was leaving Udinese, and there was no lack of options either with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all looking to bring him into their squads. Instead he opted for a move to Barcelona and has not been a huge success.
He could well be on his way this summer, primarily because his main competitor, David Villa, has been extremely effective this season.
The former Udinese man has scored only two goals in 20 La Liga appearances this season and if he becomes available, Wenger should move quickly to secure the exciting Chilean.
Martin Montoya is another player who is finding his route to the first team frustratingly blocked by a superior. Both Adriano and Dani Alves are ahead of him in the queue for first team action, meaning Montoya has been limited to just nine La Liga starts in the last three seasons.
Arsenal should be looking for a new right back as the uncertainty over Bacary Sagna’s long-term fitness continues to worry. Sagna has struggled with form and fitness in the last two seasons and Wenger may believe this summer is the best time to sell the Frenchman.
Although many Arsenal fans would probably not want this purely based on pride, Alex Song would be welcomed back to the squad with open arms. After leaving Arsenal last summer the 25-year-old has struggled to battle past Sergio Busquets and claim a first team place for himself; which was widely expected.
Arsenal may find him available for a fraction of the £15 million Barcelona paid for him, but it is unlikely Barcelona will be willing to take a big loss.
According to the Daily Star Victor Valdes has reportedly expressed his desire to join Arsenal, and has identified a move to Arsenal as his preferred destination. Arsenal are rumoured to be in the market for a goalkeeper, as Arsenal Wenger seems to be losing faith in Wojciech Szczesny. Szczesny has recently been dropped from the Arsenal side and Wenger could do with a much stronger competitor for the No.1 shirt than Lukasz Fabianski.
