Chelsea’s Frank Lampard reached another milestone in his now legendary Chelsea career when he scored his 200th goal for the club against West Ham on Sunday.

Playing at home, Chelsea looked a rejuvenated side after the recent morale-boosting come-from-behind 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, and the Chelsea team looked every bit like the Chelsea of old as they bossed possession in all parts of the field and dominated their London rivals.

The result, coupled with Tottenham’s defeat to Fulham, moved Chelsea into third place in the Premier League table.

Lampard’s goal tally now only falls short to that of Chelsea great Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals for the London club. With the record coming against a club Lampard used to play for up until 2001, when he moved for £11m, made it an extra special occasion of the midfielder.

Lampard had another chance to get his 201st goal for the club but he blazed just over the crossbar.

An ecstatic Lampard was quoted after the match as saying: “It is one of my best days”.

Lampard’s future has been a huge question mark lately as his club are reluctant to offer him a new deal, and speculation rife about his possible next destination once his contract expires at the end of the current season.

Lampard, for his part, has been a true professional and has not allowed this speculation to affect his performances on the field as he has returned to his goalscoring best.
