Top Five: Most popular football videos
Want to waste your time watching pointless videos on the internet? Right this way...
How has your day been so far? Fine? OK? Average?
Well it should be better than that. You know why? Because today is international be happy day! Or something like that anyway.
Today should be the day you shake off the shackles of oppression of your daily routine, the day you rejoice at being young and alive and live every minute like it's your last!
At GMF we couldn't really be bothered with all that so set about writing a feature that might brighten up your day for a few minutes before you returned back to reality and the daily grind.
The initial idea was "football's funniest videos", but I don't know if you have checked recently but there are *loads* of football videos on sites like YouTube. Too many for one man to go through in the five minutes I have spare anyway.
So instead you'll have to make do with the five most popular football videos in YouTube history - luckily they'll pretty much all make you laugh in some way or another. I'm also fairly confident that none of the entries on our esteemed list have the copyright to publish these videos. Never mind. When has that ever mattered?
5. Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, C.Ronaldo, Henry and Robinho - 35, 842,878 views
When "dannnnn" declared on a compilation video he cobbled together back in May 2006 that we should all "play for fun, play good soccer" the world should have known it had a video producer on its hands the likes of which it had never seen before.
Over 35 million people have inexplicably watched this seemingly random collection of clips and adverts fudged together with a bedraggled Eric Cantona showing off his acting chops mid-way through. It's better than most the other films he's been in, and definitely reached a bigger audience. Watch here.
4. Funny Football - 36,419,172
Fitting perfectly into the theme of this feature, the video at number four is called simply "funny football".
And funnily enough, it's a series of "hilarious" clips sold with the following tag line: "Ignore the gay referee. It gets better after that." Now that's a mantra we can all live by.
Disclaimer: GMF does not endorse homophobic behaviour or bad refereeing decisions. Watch here.
3. Gummibär - Go For The Goal - World Cup Soccer Song - 39,549,896
Right, what sort of idiots are clicking on this? And to make matters worse, there's bloody two of them in the top five!
Well not on my watch. We're rolling them together to form one animated monstrosity that, between the two videos, have accumulated almost 80 million views.
As far as I can tell it is some sort bastard love-child of the Crazy Frog and a bag of Haribo, designed to besmirch, sorry celebrate, the 2010 World Cup. Some people…..
2. Best Goals in History of Football - 46,015,643
Our next video is the humbly-titled "best goals in history of football", which frankly doesn't leave much wiggle room for debate.
Yep, this beauty contains more hammer-bangs, thunder-whacks, screamers, stunners, strikes and…really good goals and that…. than you can shake a stick at.
As creator s0at0downtown says "Watch a compilation of the best goals that have been shot. now in better quality." Couldn't have said it better myself.
1. 17 Craziest Field Crashers!!! - 51,233,311
And the number one football video on YouTube is…. a load of fat drunk men running on and ruining various sporting events. What a world we live in.
What's that you say? In a feature about the most popular football videos on the internet, the number one only has about 5 seconds of actual football in it? Nuts to you, why don't you come over here and try and write it then?!
Just watch the video and leave me alone, alright?
