Manchester City and Chelsea target Henrikh Mkhitaryan has caused a stir by expressing his intention to leave Shakhtar Donetsk this summer, according to reports

The Armenian midfielder, who has impressed in the Champions League with the Ukrainian club over the last couple of seasons, has decided it's time to climb up the ladder to a team with more promise, with Manchester City and Chelsea on red alert. 

The 24-year-old has been a success at Shakhtar since joining in 2010, scoring 32 goals in 63 appearances, however his success as attracted attention from many top clubs around Europe.

According to reports, the Premier League duo are keen to bring Mkhitaryan to England, and are considering a summer swoop for the sought-after attacking midfielder.

The player has responded to the rumours, saying: "For every player, to play for the strongest clubs in the world is a dream, and the main goal.

“I will do everything possible to move this summer to a different team." 

It will be interesting to see if both Manchester City and Chelsea up their interest in the Armenian star after his comments, as a move to the Premier League may be on the horizon for Mkhitaryan.

Although this transfer saga may rumble on as Spanish giants Barcelona have also been linked with the star, as they look for a replacement for out of favour Alexis Sanchez. 

Wherever the playmaker ends up, he may soon become a household name around the world, as he looks to take on one of Europe’s top leagues.
