Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has hinted that he would welcome a move away from Anfield for a club in the Champions League.

Despite claiming he his still happy playing under Brendan Rodgers for the Uruguayan conceded an offer from a Champions League club would be tempting, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Suarez has been in blistering form so far this season, scoring 29 goal in 40 games but Liverpool look set to miss out on Europe’s most prestigious competition once again.

They currently sit nine points off the top four and have been eliminated from the Europa League.

Suarez is back in Uruguay for a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay and gave an interview where he admitted a bid coming in from a Champions League club would cause him to think.

“I am very happy at Liverpool but you never know in football,” he is quoted as saying.

“A player’s ambition is always there, the ambition of wanting to play in elite teams is always there.

“I’m in a world-class team, an elite team like Liverpool. We have to realise we have a new manager who is imposing a philosophy and a way of playing that the players are adapting to as best we can. We hope that it will bear fruit next year.

“If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome.

“We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don’t want to go.”

Any bid would have to be sizeable as Liverpool made it clear this morning that they have no desire to sell Suarez.

Anfield managing director Ian Ayre spoke to the BBC this morning and insisted the Reds would do all they can to hold on to the 26-year-old and was confident he would still be wearing a Liverpool shirt for some time.

“We love Luis being at Liverpool, he loves being at Liverpool and we fully expect him to be at Liverpool next season,” he said.
