Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho has put Arsenal and Liverpool on alert after he revealed he could leave the French side, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old has started only 18 of the 29 league games and feels he needs to be playing regularly if he wants to make the France World Cup squad next year.

Sakho has been capped 12 times at senior level after coming through the ranks at the Parisian club and was named as captain under previous manager Antoine Kombouare before being later stripped of the role by Carlo Ancelotti.

Liverpool have been lining up the French international as a possible replacement for retiring Jamie Carragher. However, the Anfield side may face competition from Arsenal and Newcastle for his signature.

With the Brazilian pairing of Alex and Thiago Silva ahead of him, Sakho has admitted he may need to leave the club.

He said: "In the mind of the PSG coach, I'm the third. I finally come to accept it even if i do not understand it.

"It's been a difficult year and a half for me at PSG. To continue my progress, I must be playing.

"I have to play at club level to qualify for the France team."
