Dennis Bergkamp - Netherlands 2-1 Argentina, 1988

Football News

Having dispatched of England courtesy of spot-kicks, Argentina were undone by the Netherlands in the next round of the 1998 World Cup in equally as dramatic circumstances.

Patrick Kluivert had provided the Netherlands with the lead in the first half, but this was cancelled out six minutes later by Claudio Lopez, and the match appeared destined for extra time. This was until an intervention from Dennis Bergkamp.

With the seconds ticking down, Frank de Boer launched a long ball forward into the Argentina, which Bergkamp plucked out the air, before bamboozling the defender and adding a breathtaking finish to send his country into the last four.

Watch it here (the commentary wasn't bad either)
