Ruud Gullit put the Netherlands in front against the Soviet Union in Munich, before Van Basten's thunderbolt put the icing on the cake of a victorious tournament for the Dutch.
As the ball dropped down at a seemingly unthinkable angle, Van Basten cracked a volley from an inconceivable angle, which screeched over the head of Rinat Dasayev and into the net.
