Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally claimed that he didn’t attend the FIFA World Coach of the Year awards ceremony in January because the voting system was rigged.

To add weight to his claims, Goran Pandev has also backed Mourinho’s accusations of irregularities for the FIFA World Coach of the Year award, saying that even though he had voted for Mourinho, FIFA claimed he had voted for Vicente Del Bosque.

The Macedonian captain, a former player of Mourinho’s at Inter Milan, said in “LaSexta”: “I voted for Mourinho, only Mourinho. Some very strange things have happened here.

“According to the FIFA list I voted for Vicente del Bosque, but I voted for Mourinho. I even called him and said I’d vote for him. Unfortunately, odd things happen at FIFA.”

The player, who now plays for Napoli, is furious that FIFA revealed he had picked Del Bosque in the first place, Roberto Mancini second and Jurgen Klopp in third and stated: “I called him and said that I’d voted for him as the Macedonian captain. I don’t know what happened.

"Mourinho was sad. We all know something strange is going on here, but neither I nor Mourinho can change anything," he added.

In “The Special One’s” outburst, he revealed that Pandev was not the only one to call the Real Madrid manager to tell him FIFA had got it wrong. Speaking in an interview on Portuguese TV, Mourinho said: “More than one person, two or three people, phoned me to say they’d voted for me and that their vote ended up going to someone else. So I decided not to go.”

The votes were cast by national team coaches and captains, plus selected journalists and the award was eventually won by Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque, who was considered the favourite after leading the side to glory in last summer's European Championships in record breaking fashion.

Since his claims, FIFA have denied any voting irregularities or wrong doing claiming the list is accurate and have published Pandev’s voting slip.
