Chelsea striker, Fernando Torres, could be on his way back to Spain with old-club, Athletico Madrid ready to offer him a way out of England.

The coach at Atletico, Diego Simeone, has hinted to Onda Cero that the club may be prepared to make a bid for Torres and could pursue their interest in the summer when the transfer window opens up.

The Spanish striker has had a torrid time ever since joining Chelsea from Liverpool back in 2011 for £50 million and he is reported to be unhappy at the club and with life in England.

The 29-year-old left Atletico Madrid to join Liverpool back in 2007 after scoring 82 goals for the Spanish side. He then continued his impressive goalscoring record by hitting 65 goals for Liverpool in just over 100 appearances. However since joining Chelsea, he has failed to make an impact scoring just 14 goals in 74 appearances.

Simeone used to play with Torres and he knows how good he could potentially be and he is eyeing up a potential move for the Chelsea striker once the current season ends.

"Fernando Torres is currently playing for another team. We have to wait for the season to finish and decide which of the available players could come here and do a good job," the Atletico coach told Onda Cero.

"Fernando knows about the club's history, what it means to play here and I don't need to speak about his ability.

"We were team-mates [from 2003 until 2005]. I know how important he can be."
