With Manchester City unlikely to win the Premier League title next season, the reigning champions must recruit some reinforcements this summer.
City have lacked the creativity and attacking flair that spearheaded their Premier League win last season as key players like Samir Nasri and David SIlva have failed to perform.
Their defence has also appeared shaky at times and a solid centre-back could be useful as they will look to maintain a challenge for trophies in Europe and domestically.
Here are five players that could help City get back to their best.
5. Christian Eriksen | Ajax (Approximate value: £15-£20m)
At 21 years old, Eriksen has been a regular feature in the Ajax starting line-up for a number of years now, and has made himself invaluable recently.
Having scored 10 goals whilst setting up 15 for his team-mates this season, he has caught the eye of many of Europe's finest clubs. His pace and trickery could help City create more chances for the likes of Sergio Aguero and re-kindle their goalscoring form of last year.
4. Mats Hummels | Borussia Dortmund (Approximate value: £20-25m)
Hummels is an absolute rock at the heart of Dortmund's defence, and could be the partner that Vincent Kompany has needed.
His season has been somewhat restricted so far due to injury but when he has played he has been solid, and last season he impressed by playing 33 league games and staring in Germany's run to the semi finals of Euro 2012.
A top-class international centre back at 24, he is a top prospect and would sure up City's defence.
3. Mario Götze | Borussia Dortmund (Approximate value: £30-£40m)
To play over 20 times for a country as good as Germany at the age of 20 is no mean feat, and Mario Götze has the potential need to play another 100 times.
He has been involved in 33 goals so far this term and has been chased by the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal for some time now, as his price has rocketed in the recent years.
Although the transfer fee involved may be enormous, Götze is arguably worth it.
2. Daniele De Rossi | AS Roma (Approximate value: £15-20m)
The steely Italian has been at the top of the game in the central defensive midfield role for many years now.
It seems that he is linked with a move to England every summer, and he also excelled last year at the Euros, playing the sweeper role in Italy's solid formation.
He could replace the likes of Gareth Barry, who is struggling to emulate his form from last season, and Jack Rodwell who is seemingly always out due to injury.
1. Isco | Malaga (Approximate value: £20-25m)
The young Spaniard has been in scintillating form during this years' Champions League campaign, scoring three and creating another three goals.
Also, in La Liga, he has carried Malaga at times, netting eight times and catching the eye of Manchester City's scouting team.
Aged 20 he made his international debut last month as a late substitute and has played 40 times this season already, and will surely move in the summer as Malaga are banned from playing in Europe next season.
