Barcelona hope Victor Valdes signs new contract
Barcelona news: Catalan giants hopeful Arsenal transfer target Victor Valdes will put pen to paper
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is hoping that long standing goalkeeper Victor Valdes will sign a new deal with the Catalan giants before his contract expires.
The Spaniard's deal ends in 2014, but Rosell is hopeful that once Barcelona head coach Tito Vilanova returns they can persuade Valdes to extend his contract. Vilanova is set to return back to the Camp Nou soon after receiving treatment for cancer in New York.
However, the stopper's representatives have told the Barcelona hierarchy that he is looking to leave Barcelona when his current deal ends.
This has put clubs on red alert with a number of different sides interested in the Spanish back-up keeper, most notably Arsenal who have been reportedly looking for a replacement to their current number one, Wojciech Szczesny.
Although, Rosell is hoping to change the mind of Valdes and extend his current deal past 2014 and keep him at the Camp Nou.
"We said at the time, it is best to wait until the summer when the club has won everything we can," Rosell said speaking to El Mundo Deportivo.
"With Tito well, we'll be talking to Victor, when all this is over I think he will reconsider his position.
"We are hoping that there is some reflection for Victor and he will talk quietly with the club, but I have always said whoever does not want to be at the club, then the door is opened for them to leave."
