Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is starting to live up to expectations and is hitting top form at the right time.

The Icelandic playmaker has, in recent months, been impressing for Spurs with him finding joy out on the left wing.

Sigurdsson who was in great demand after his return to English football with Swansea found it difficult to cement a starting place at White Hart Lane.

However, the midfielder has been impressing for club of late and, more recently, for country.

Sigurdsson is known for his ability from long range and showed this during his time with the Welsh club last season.

He once again delivered this time for Iceland in their World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Friday night when he curled home a free-kick from 35 yards.

The Tottenham man scored again to record the victory for Iceland who are now in joint second place in Group E, two points behind Switzerland.

“The last six weeks have been good for me on a personal level, I’ve played more regularly, that helps and it was fantastic to get the two goals for Iceland but it was vitally important for the team to get the three points,” he told

“We’ve had very important games of late in the Premier League and Europa League and more coming up with Swansea, Everton, City and Chelsea, plus Basel in the Europa League.

“Hopefully we’ll push on again in the Premier League and get through to the semi-finals of the Europa League. That’s what we’re all aiming for.”
