Chelsea scouts track £7.5m England U21 international defender
Chelsea transfer news: Nathaniel Clyne linked with £7.5m move from Southampton
Chelsea are set to make a £7.5million move for highly-rated Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims the Blues are keen to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge in the summer, having seen the right-back impress during his first season in the Premier League.
Indeed, the paper claims Chelsea scouts made a personal check on the player at Wycombe's Adams Park stadium on Thursday night, watching Clyne in international action for England U21s during their 3-0 win over Romania.
The defender began his professional career at Crystal Palace, making his senior debut in 2008 and spending four years in the Championship at Selhurst Park.
Ex-Saints boss Nigel Adkins brought the full-back for £2.15million in the summer, and he's been an regular at St Marys for both his old manager and replacement Mauricio Pochettino this term.
Clyne is seen as a potential long-term successor for Cesar Azpilicueta at Chelsea, according to the paper, although the Spaniard is only in his first season in west London after arriving from Marseille in the summer.
And, were the London-born full-back to arrive at Chelsea in the summer, it's not yet clear who his manager will be next season, with 'interim' chief Rafa Benitez set to leave his post at the conclusion of the current campaign.
